Shaving Equipment Care & Maintenance

Your actual tool's instructions determine cleaning and suitable products.

After use

  • Disassemble safety razors safely, rinse off soap and let them dry. Do not wipe cutting edges.
  • Carefully rinse and dry straight razors without touching the edge. Store dry with ventilation; use suitable care oil as directed before extended storage.
  • Rinse brushes thoroughly with lukewarm water and gently shake out water. Do not wring, twist in a towel or blow-dry. Allow air drying; do not enclose a damp brush.

DOVO allows upright or hanging drying, while MÜHLE recommends a holder for its natural-hair brushes. Follow the particular brush's instructions.

Stropping and honing

Strop straight razors according to razor and strop instructions: spine first, turn over the spine. If stropping no longer restores performance, seek professional honing. No universal monthly interval or stroke count applies to every razor.

Damage

Have rust, loose parts or a damaged edge assessed before further use. Do not universally recommend toothpaste, conditioner or descaler; suitability depends on materials.
