First aid for shaving problems
This overview helps you choose a next step; it does not diagnose the cause.
| Problem | First step | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Burning and widespread redness | Stop shaving, rinse gently and use a cool damp compress | Razor burn |
| Recurring bumps | Do not squeeze or pierce; avoid shaving the area | Ingrown hairs |
| Dry, tight skin | Comfortably temperate water and a tolerated fragrance-free moisturizer on intact skin | Aftercare |
| Small cut | Maintain firm, uninterrupted pressure with clean material; then clean and cover | Cuts and bleeding |
Heavy or uncontrolled bleeding is an emergency. Increasing pain, warmth, swelling, pus, spreading redness or fever requires medical assessment. Call your local emergency number immediately for breathing difficulty or swelling of the lips or tongue.
