Wet Shaving While Traveling

Once you've switched to wet shaving, you won't want to give it up while traveling. With a bit of preparation, it works without any problems.

Airport Rules: What Can Go in Carry-On?

The EU liquids rule (100 ml per container, 1-liter zip bag) also applies to shaving soaps and aftershave:

Note: These rules apply in the EU and UK. Regulations may differ in other countries – always check in advance.

Strategy 1: Razor in Carry-On, Buy Blades at Destination

Bring the razor without a blade and buy affordable blades at your destination. Brands like Gillette, Wilkinson, and Astra are available worldwide.

Strategy 2: Everything in Checked Luggage

Check the complete shaving kit. Simple and worry-free if you're checking a bag anyway.

Strategy 3: Compact Travel Set

Dedicated travel razors are smaller and lighter:

  • Merkur 33C: Compact and travel-ready
  • Muhle R89: Light and robust
  • Edwin Jagger DE89: Proven classic for travel

Solid Shaving Soap: The Secret Weapon for Air Travel

Solid shaving soaps are not liquids and are therefore not subject to the 100 ml rule. They are:

  • Space-saving (fits in any toiletry bag)
  • Less fragile than pots
  • Long-lasting (one puck covers many trips)

Recommendations: Arko stick, La Toja, Tabac in solid form.

Disposing of Blades While Traveling

Never throw loose used blades in the trash. Options on the road:

  • A small DIY blade bank made from an empty tin lid
  • Wrap blades in thick tape before disposal
  • In hotels: there is often a designated disposal slot in the bathroom

Tips for Business Travelers

  • Wet shaving with a lather soap takes no longer than using a cartridge razor
  • Some hotels provide shaving soaps on request
  • Aftershave balm in a 100 ml bottle is perfect for carry-on
  • A travel brush (collapsible) saves even more space
