Rasurapp: getting started, offline use and backups
You can use inventory, the shave journal and the wiki without an account. Your entries are stored in this browser on this device. Signing in alone does not transfer them to other devices.
Your first entry
- Open Inventory and choose a category, such as brushes or soaps. Use the plus button or “Add your first product” to open the form. Fill in the required details and save.
- Open Shaves, check the date and select your existing equipment. Add a rating and comment. You can also record a shave without selecting equipment.
- Save the entry. You can edit or delete it later in the journal. Cancelling a navigation attempt keeps unsaved input in the form.
Update soap and aftershave fill levels yourself. The app does not deduct a fixed percentage per shave. Blade-product usage counts entries using that product; it does not automatically track how many times one particular physical blade has been used.
Navigation and language
On a phone, Home, Shaves, Inventory, Learn and More lead to the main areas. More contains settings, backups, links and account access. Larger screens offer these destinations in the sidebar.
Choose German or English and your preferred appearance in Settings. The wiki searches titles and text in the selected language. The search term and new-article filter remain available when opening an article and returning.
Install as an app
Rasurapp is an installable web app (PWA). It does not require an app store.
- Android: Open
rasur.appin a supported browser. Choose “Install app” or “Add to Home screen” in its menu, if available. - iPhone/iPad: Open the site in Safari and choose “Add to Home Screen” in the Share menu. Depending on your system version, it may be under additional actions.
- Computer: A supported browser offers an install button in the address bar or menu.
The exact wording depends on the browser and operating system. After installation, check whether your inventory is present. Some combinations keep browser and installed-app data separate; export a backup before switching.
What works offline
First load the app fully with an internet connection. You can then record equipment and shaves and read the included wiki in that prepared browser. Test once with the network disabled before relying on it while travelling.
Signing in, server backups and external links require a connection. A new browser or newly set up device must load the app online first. Installing the app does not create an automatic backup.
Back up to a file
- Open More → Back up and restore.
- Choose Export JSON. Your browser downloads a file with a name such as
rasurapp_backup_2026-10-08.json. - Check that the file is in your downloads folder and keep a copy somewhere safe and easy to find again. Create a new backup after important changes.
The current full backup includes equipment, shaves, saved links, hidden resources, appearance mode, accent colour and any saved custom background image. It contains no account passwords and does not restore a signed-in session. Restoring does not apply a language setting from the backup.
Local JSON export and import work without an account or Premium. The file may contain personal comments and images; share it deliberately. Clearing browser data, private browsing or storage cleanup can remove local entries.
Move to another device
- Export the current backup on the original device and transfer the file to the new one.
- Open the app and its backup area there.
- First save any entries already present on the destination device to a separate backup file.
- Choose Import JSON, open the transferred file and read the confirmation. Restoring replaces existing data; it does not merge two collections.
- Confirm only for the intended destination collection. Afterwards, check the inventory and shave journal. Keep the original file.
Exporting does not change your collection. The existing JSON import restores a backup; it is not a way to append someone else's product list.
Accounts and server backups
An account is optional. Eligible Premium and admin accounts can also save and restore server backups manually. This is not continuous automatic synchronisation. A new local entry is included only when a later server backup is explicitly saved.
Restoring from the server can also replace local data, so a local JSON backup beforehand remains useful. Downloading a server backup as a file does not change the local collection.
